Is getting a degree in Health Information Technology a good choice? Well at first I wanted to do either medical assisting or pharmacy technician, but i've heard a lot of negative things about both. All 3 mentioned programs are available at my school and each is a associates degree when you graduate. Does anyone know if Health Information Technology is the best choice? Any help at all will be greatly apprecriated. Thanks in advance
Will I be able to pursue a career in Health Information Technology if I have Hepatitis B and have 3 misdemeano I am currently enrolled at the community college and wanted to know if I would be able to work in Health Information Technology if I had hepatitis B and 3 misdemeanor for issuance of bad check. The misdemeanors was from 2001. I have no other criminal record and it was 6 years ago! Will I be denied of the position. I always disclosed my record to my employers and noone realy seems to mind but I know that working in a hospital can be alittle more difficult. If I will have to work harder at it then its no problem but I just don't want to take all my courses and be denied of my certification.
Associates in Health information technology? My background is Commerce - Business Administration. That degree almost seems useless here. I am considering Health information technology as a career. To get started I'll have get an Associates degree and then get the certification to get started. Is all this worth it?

Just someone to go over notes with etc. Thanks in advance
What is a National Coordinator of Health Information Technology? (pages 461-463 of the stimulus plan) Will I still have the freedom to keep my personal medical history private? Will it be mandatory for the government to access my medical records whenever they want? I don't understand. Will I be able to "opt out" if I want to? Will citizens still have the freedom to choose whether to give this information out?
Health information technology and Health information management ? Health information technology and Health information management ? I have read a lot of question about two careers, however, I am still confused. Would you guys help me please? For ex: -My college offers an AA degreen in health information technology, if I have AA degree in this HIT, can I go to BS degree in this HIT ? and where can I find schools (I prefer Calstate in California)? -If I go to BS degree in Health information technology, will it be called Heal information management? I think Health information management is higher than Health information technology, but I am not sure. I dont know they are both the same career or not ? AA degree in HIT is called Health information technology. On the other hand, BS degree in HIT is called Health information management? am I right ? Thank you very much!
Will Obama's National Coordinator of Health Information Technology deny medical treatment to the elderly? This has just been passed in the "stimulus" package and is a copy of what they do in Europe. Government pulls out the actuarial charts and say , "statistics show you do not have many more years of life, in order to reduce the nations healthcare costs you will not be given treatment. You are old and must realise you are going to die pretty soon anyhow." Is this the Change Obama was talking about, denying the elderly healthcare?

Health information Technology, please explain? Is health information technology -coding, billing, and managing health information? or is it like computer information systems within the healthcare system? The program is online through National Polytechnic. It is called Health Information Technology Associate degree. most core classes are med billing, coding and you can get certified through AHIMA.
I can't find an accredited school for Health Information Technology...? I would love some help! I can't find a school that is accredited so I can become an RHIT... I live in Indiana and I can only find institutes that offer the program but don't assure accreditation by the time you graduate. And then of course it would be pointless because I can't become certified. Thanks!
Is health information technology a good field to get into? What is the salary like? Is it worth going to school for it? If you know anything about this job field then please inform me! I'm meeting with a college adviser soon, but I would like to know for myself. Oh and most likely I would start off getting the associates degree, and then getting the bachelors in it, but before I do all of this, I want advice/information. Thanks!

Health Information Technology Programs Online? Hi! I am considering going for an associates in Health Information Technology. I am excited about this as a career and have heard great things about it. The problem is, for me, that there is only one college in my area that is accredited by cahiim and it is over two hours away from where i work and live. I work full time and having this kind of travel time would be impossible. I would love to get my degree online. I have done extensive research into online programs, and one of the very few that meets my criteria (mainly that it is accredited) is Rasmussen college. I know it is for profit and all, but it seems I have few options. This is a huge decision for me. I have a bachelors degree in English from a well known state college, but have not found opportunities in the field that I got the degree for. I am currently earning less than ten dollars an hour even with a degree and cannot make such a huge financial decision such as going back to school lightly. My question is does anyone know anything about Rasmussen college? Any experience or knowledge whether it involves the HIT program or not would be very helpful! Also, If anyone has any other suggestions for online schools that offer this program and are accredited please feel free to share. I would greatly appreciate it.
Medical Laboratory Technology OR Health Information Technology? I am considering going back to school for a change of career. I am looking at two Associate Degree programs at my local community college.....Medical Laboratory Technology and Health Information Technology. I understand the basic differences, one's in a lab while the other is more of an office setting coding medical records. My question is, in your opinion, which is the better job? What are the pros and cons of each? Which job has the LEAST interaction with people? Salary isn't so much of an issue as is job satisfaction for me. I would very much like to be able to just do my job without dealing with very many people. I am very solitary and prefer to be left alone, especially at work. I understand that interactions with people are necessary in all jobs, but would love as minimal interaction as possible. Please no links....I have read tons of occupation descriptions and watched career videos. I really want to hear from people who are, or have been, in these occupations. Thanks. Also, are MLT's required to draw blood from people at any point? I know that's usually a Phlebotomist's job but I read somewhere that some MLT's sometimes have to do that.
National Coordinator of Health Information Technology is stimulus? In the latest version of the stimulus bill, house democrats and the Obama administration have included the formation of an office called the Coordinator of Health Information Technology which has the following responsibilities: "whose purpose will be to oversee the actions of the healthcare providers you see to determine if they line up with what the federal government believes is the best care for you." Does that sound like stimulus to you? Doesn't that sound like the creation of a nanny state that will tell the insurance companies what care they can provide you or what care the Government determines is "cost effective?" This sickens me, what does everyone else think. http://www.examiner.com/x-867-LowCarb-Lifestyle-Examiner~y2009m2d10-What-exactly-is-President-Obama-hiding-about-health-in-his-economic-stimulus-bill Look at #2 on the list, it describes this part of the stimulus bill in full. Help, Medical Insurance Specialist/Health Information Technology/Medical Administrative Assistant careers? I'm undecided about whether I should get an Associates in Medical Insurance Specialist, Health Information Technology, or Medical Administrative Assistant. Could someone tell me what kind of career is each and the differences? There is also a certificate program for Medical Insurance Specialist, so which do you think would be better a certificate or a degree and why? Is there a difference in pay? Is there room for advancement in each career in whatever I chose. There is also a certificate program for Medical Transcriptionist, so would this career be good without a degree? Does this career pay more then the others without a degree. I live in Michigan. I'm just wanting to hear others views and opinions. Thanks
Health Care information technology? I'm writing a research paper on this type of technology and I'm consentrating on websites such as webMD and the fact that patients can store their medical records in these webs and share them with their phisicians. The paper has to be about info-tech so I was wondering if and how I should formulate it because I also want to include some info on TouchWorks and Allscrips (other technologies used to improfe the sharing of information in healthcare). If you have any suggestions it would be great. I do, after all, have to write my own paper, but it would help to get some ideas from the Yahoo community. It is after all the information age.
Does Information Technology coincide with Health Information Management/Administration in any way? I am sure that Health Information Management/Administration would be the ideal career for me. However, there are no schools around me that offer this program. I learned through the AHIMA website that there is a school about three hours away that offer distance learning for HIT/HIM/HIA. The master's program is HIA and since my nearest schools don't offer any of the other programs or anything close to it, I was wondering if I pursued Information Technology or something similar for my bachelor's if this would help along with my master's in HIA. I have already contacted the school and I was told that pretty much any degree would be accepted. I would just like a background that is similar to the Master's program. What are your thoughts? TIA

Anybody in the Health Information technology field? Is it easy to find employment? I'm interested in turning my Health Major from a Labortory focus to a technical focus. I know I want to be in the Health feild but I do not want to work closely with patients. I know I am interested in Labortory science and I think I would do well but the educational requirements sort of intimidate me. I am extremely computer savy and enjoy learning new things about computers. My husband is a software designer and he teaches me new things everyday and I thoroughly enjoy learning. I really like Labortory science but I lack the confidence needed for the strict course requirements. I guess I want help with the pros and cons of each career feild. Anyone out there who would know enough to give some helpful advice? Help Me!
What is a good online school for Health Information Technology? When I get a career I would like for it to be in medical billing and coding. I do not want to just be certified, I want to go ahead and get a degree, just so I will have something to "fall back on". I need to work full-time, so I can pay for college, and all of my other expenses, so it would be more efficient to go to school online. I've looked at DeVry for a while now, but their prices are very high. Also, How long did it take, and what was the total cost?
does anyone know of any career options for a health administration major/ information technology minor? I will graduate with a Bachelor's of Science from Penn State. I was thinking I could be a data analyst but i'm not sure if that's feasible? if not, what other high paying entry level, it related jobs do you think I could qualify for. My career advisor and academic advisor were not of any help (both told me to look up monster, career builder, ect-- and those sites were unhelpful!) Thank you in advance for those who legitimately try to answer my question.
Health science or health tech degree for dental hygienist? Which degree is better to go into if I am going for Dental Hygienist, a health science degree or health information technology degree? Can you tell me what each degree is commonly used for, how much they make, and is it worth going for for the future careers?

They are online school. What do you think, is it good idea to get associates through them or any other national accreditted online schools. I already have Assoicates in Liberal Arts. I wanted to get another Associates degree without leaving the house (perhaps online program) and taking my time, because i have 2 six-month old babies. How can I find non-governmental funding for African American women over 40 seeking their first degree? I'm interested in a associate of applied science degree in health information technology. I've already accumulated more than $7,000 in student loans because I'm single and didn't qualify for any grants. I do not wish to make another loan to the government seeing that I only earn $8 per hr on my current job as well as being displaced by Katrina. I'm seeking any organization or person to sponser my continued education.
